According to Nikon materials, EL Nikkor stopped selling in 2006. I bought this EL Nikkor 75mm F4N lens over 10 years ago. It was unused and like new beautiful condition so I decided to buy it.

EL Nikkor 75mm F4N Lens Construction

I was surprised to see the lens construction. It's surprisingly simple. This lens is a Tessar type with 4 elements in 3 groups. The EL Nikkor 75mm F4N lens has a simple structure but generates a very good image.

The 75mm photo enlarging lens was a necessary lens for many medium format photographers. The EL Nikkor 75mm F4N lens was good for them and reasonably priced. Please see the price at the time of 1984.

Two Lenses

I have two EL Nikkor 75mm F4N lenses. They look exactly the same, but there are some differences.

The left is the early model, and the serial number is 503147. The right is the late model, and the serial number is 531100.

Difference Between Two Lenses

According to the specifications, the weight of the lens is as follows.

Weight :  90 g
Actual weight :  87.5 g (No. 503147)
Actual weight :  68.5 g (No. 531100)

The weights of the two lenses are so different.

Early Model No. 503147

"MADE IN JAPAN" is engraved on the front lens part.
The lens barrel is fastened with three Phillips screws.

Late Model No. 531100

A small sticker with "MADE IN JAPAN" printed on the lens barrel is affixed.
There are no screws around the lens barrel.

How to use the N series lenses

This lens can illuminate the aperture value with the light bulb of the enlarger. For this purpose, there is a lighting window in the lens. When using an N-series lens for photography, cover the aperture value display window with black tape.
