Special exhibition: NAOMI UEMURA
Nikon Museum will hold 100th Anniversary special exhibitions from January 2017.
The first exhibition is "Naomi Uemura - Camera Techniques in Polar Regions".
Naomi Uemura was a famous Japanese mountaineer and adventurer.

being the first in the world to climb the highest peaks on five continents,

Uemura produced a large number of photographs, including self-portraits,
records of his adventures, and photos of the world of ice,
in extremely cold situations in which even the pressing of the shutter button was difficult.

and exhibits approximately 20 photo panels and slides,
mainly photos taken by Uemura himself during solo expeditions
by dogsled to the North Pole and across Greenland in 1978.
In addition, approximately 20 items of equipment
which he used during his adventures are on display,
such as the NIKON F2 Titanium Uemura Special developed by Nikon for his adventures,
the Japanese flag erected by Uemura upon reaching the North Pole,
the dogsled used for his solo expedition across Greenland,
