Synchro Nikon

The Nikon S camera comes with a flash unit. The same camera equipment featured in a 1951 camera magazine advertisement was prepared.

This advertisement from 1951 is important evidence that supports the claim that the "S" in Nikon S stands for "Synchro."

Nikon Kenkyukai Summer Seminar

It was a very quiet summer afternoon in Ginza. Paper materials were distributed to everyone, and the seminar began. We researched the era when David Douglas Duncan began using Nikkor lenses.

Very Old Nikkor Lens

There is a very small lens on the collection table. It is a very small lens, but it has the sharp eyes like a samurai.

Very Small Lens

SUNAYAMA Nikkor 7.5cm F4.5   Nr. 755
Nippon-Kogaku   1932

Do you know this lens? It is a very rare Nikkor lens. According to the explanation on pages 523 to 526 of Nikon's 40-year history, this is a 3-group, 4-element Tessar-type lens, the same as the Anytar 7.5cm F4.5. It seems that a small number of these lenses were produced under the name Nikkor 7.5cm F4.5 for general use rather than military purposes. We believe that this lens was designed by engineer Kakuya Sunayama, who was the head of optical design in Nippon Kogaku, and his subordinates.

SUNAYAMA Nikkor 7.5cm F4.5   Nr. 755
Nippon-Kogaku   1932

I looked up the release year of this lens. I confirmed that it is stated on page 71 of Nikon 75 Years of History II and page 156 of Nikon 100 Years of History II that it was released in 1932.

I placed a mechanical pencil next to the lens for size comparison. As you can see, it is extremely small but has precise engraving. We believe that this lens was supplied for Seiki Kogaku' camera.
