Ryu's Press Lecture

Ryu Koakimoto, a professional photojournalist, introduced some old press photos to us. Koakimoto showed us very famous photo, "V-J Day in Times Square, Alfred Eisenstaedt, 1945".

In August of 1945 one nurse was photographed by a very famous Life's photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt while kissing a jubilant Navy man in Times Square, in celebration of the end of World War II. She was registered nurse, and her name is Ms. Edith Shain. Ms. Shain was public access cable television producer who became a world-famous figure following her participation in the 50th anniversary of V-J Day in August of 1995.

Koakimoto received sad news by US press news media on June 22, 2010. The family of Edith Shain announced the passing of their dear mother in Los Angeles on Sunday June 20, 2010 California. Koakimoto talked about Alfred Eisenstaedt and his photos, also very famous nurse Ms. Edith Shain's story. And then he talked about love and peace, and spirit of the photojournalism.
